Marble Floors
I sneak out of my room
Tiptoe on marble tile
Make my way to the glass door
I slide it open to take in the view
The sun rising above the waves
I make my king size bed
Pull open the curtains of my windows
To let the light in
That's when I see their house
How they're hanging laundry out to dry
Preparing for a days' work
I'm four floors up in a condo
It's gated, to keep me safe
To keep them out
In my country I'm in poverty
A teacher - working tirelessly for meager pay
How do you make it? They ask me there
With a job that can't afford me to live alone
Here I wake in luxury
I sunbathe beside the pool
With my American dollars
And my white skin
High above the rest
Paying for a sunrise
Next time I travel
I want to walk beside the local people
Or I don't want to go at all
